Detailed Description

R44 Raven/Clipper Series Helicopters:Robinson’s R44 Raven Series Helicopters provide excellent reliability, responsive handling, and altitude performance, making the R44 the ideal helicopter for private, business, and utility applications.RAVEN I:Equipped with a Lycoming O-540 carbureted engine, the R44 Raven I offers a balance between performance and affordability. Raven I features carburetor heat assist that enhances safety and reduces pilot workload by automatically adjusting carburetor heat in response to power changes by the pilot.R44 CLIPPERS:Clippers are R44s equipped with fixed or inflatable (pop-out) floats providing an additional level of safety for over-water travel.FIXED FLOATS:Available on either the Clipper I or Clipper II, fixed utility floats remain fully inflated for continuous over-water operations. Fixed floats add approximately fifty pounds to the aircraft’s empty weight and reduce the aircraft’s cruise speed by approximately ten knots.POP-OUT FLOATS:Available only on the Clipper II and designed for emergencies, pop-outs have six chambers and inflate within 2-3 seconds of activation. A lever on the pilot’s collective releases pressurized helium from a tank located under the aircraft’s front left seat. The activation lever uses a mechanical pull cable and does not rely on an electrically actuated system for inflation. Floats may be activated at speeds up to eighty knots. Pop-outs add approximately sixty-five pounds to the helicopter’s empty weight. When not in use, floats roll-up and stow in protective covers along the aircraft’s landing skids. The compact design minimizes drag and allows for easy entry and exit of the cabin.

Remarks

R44 IFR Training:The R44 Raven I and Raven II can be equipped with specifically designed instruments and avionics to prepare and qualify IFR pilots at a fraction of the cost associated with larger, more expensive instrument-equipped helicopters, but with the same high-quality equipment.IFR Equipment:Recommended instruments and avionics for IFR training include Primary and Multi-Function Displays, GTN 650 or 750 navigators, Mode S transponders with ADS-B, and digital chronometer as listed on the Optional Avionics & Instruments Price ListAlthough the R44 IFR Trainer is designed for instrument flight training, it is not approved for actual IFR operations. While student pilots are flying on instruments, the instructor must act as the safety pilot and operate only under VFR conditions.
